Vinyl Flooring Explained

What Is Vinyl Flooring?

Vinyl flooring is the umbrella term for PVC-based resilient flooring, and it covers more than one construction.Flexible LVT, also known as Luxury Vinyl Tile, is widely used for residential and commercial flooring applications.

SPC is a rigid-core vinyl construction built around a mineral-filled core and is typically supplied with a click-lock installation system. Flexible LVT is a flexible vinyl construction available in click, glue-down and self-adhesive formats.

The term LVP mainly describes vinyl flooring supplied in plank format rather than one specific construction. Depending on the market and supplier, an LVP product can be rigid-core or flexible, so the actual construction should be confirmed rather than assumed from the name alone.

Buyer’s Selection Guide

Choose the Right Vinyl Flooring Construction

No single vinyl flooring construction is right for every project. The suitable choice depends on subfloor condition, installation method, finished floor height, expected traffic and your target price position.

Selection factors: subfloor condition · installation method · finished floor height · expected traffic · plank or tile format · target market and price position.

01

SPC Flooring

Rigid-core construction with click-lock installation and a firmer underfoot feel than flexible LVT. It still requires a flat, clean and properly prepared subfloor.

02

Flexible Click LVT

Flexible vinyl construction with fiberglass stabilization and click-lock installation, providing a more resilient and less rigid underfoot feel than SPC.

03

Glue-Down LVT

Adhesive-bonded flexible construction with a lower finished floor height. It requires careful subfloor preparation and correct adhesive selection.

04

Self-Adhesive LVT
